Dragon Mystery Game

Our Kid-Friendly Version of “Mafia”

Many people know the classic group game “Mafia” (also called Werewolf in some versions). It’s a social deduction game where players secretly have roles and try to figure out who the “bad characters” are.

We created a kid-friendly fantasy version with dragons, wizards and magic.
Instead of scary themes, the game takes place in a magical dragon kingdom.

It’s perfect for birthday parties, family game nights, classrooms, or sleepovers.

You can download the printable role cards here and start playing right away.

The Dragon Mystery Game

In the peaceful Dragon Kingdom, most dragons live happily together.

But at night, a Mischievous Dragon secretly causes trouble in the kingdom…

The other characters must work together to discover who it is before the kingdom falls into chaos!

Roles in the Game

Mischievous Dragon

The secret troublemaker of the kingdom.
At night, the Mischievous Dragon chooses one player to turn into a flea.

Wizard Protector

The wizard can protect one player each night with a magical shield.

If the wizard protects the same player chosen by the Mischievous Dragon, the spell blocks the attack.

Oracle Witch

The Oracle Witch can secretly ask the narrator if a player is the Mischievous Dragon or not.

Kingdom Dragon

The regular dragons of the kingdom.
They must observe, discuss and vote to discover who the Mischievous Dragon is.

Crazy Dragon (optional role)

The Crazy Dragon is on the kingdom’s side but acts suspiciously on purpose.
Their goal is to confuse the players and make the game more unpredictable.

How the Game Works

One player acts as the Narrator.

Players sit or stand in a circle and receive a secret role card.
You can fold the role papers and place them in a small bag so each player draws one randomly.

No one should see which role another player has chosen.

Night Phase

Everyone closes their eyes.
It helps if players cover their eyes with their hands so they cannot see anything.

The narrator says:

“Mischievous Dragon, wake up. Who will you turn into a flea?”

The Mischievous Dragon (or dragons) open their eyes and silently point to a player.

If there is more than one Mischievous Dragon, they must agree on the same player.

Once they have chosen, the narrator says:

“Mischievous Dragon(s), go back to sleep.”

Next the narrator says:

“Wizard Protector, wake up.”

(The Wizard opens their eyes.)

“Who will you protect with your magic shield?”

The Wizard silently points to one player.

Then the narrator says:

“Wizard Protector, go back to sleep.”

Next the narrator says:

“Oracle Witch, wake up.”

(The Oracle Witch opens their eyes.)

“Who do you think is the Mischievous Dragon?”

The Oracle Witch can pretend to look into a crystal ball, then points to a player.

The narrator answers yes or no, depending on whether the guess is correct.

Then the narrator says:

“Oracle Witch, go back to sleep.”

Day Phase

The narrator announces what happened.

Option 1 – Someone became a flea

“Tonight, Dragon (player’s name) was turned into a flea!
Jump!”

(Or sing, dance, or do whatever fun action you choose.)

Option 2 – The wizard saved the player

“The wizard’s magic shield worked!
No one became a flea tonight.”

Players now discuss who they think the Mischievous Dragon is.

The Crazy Dragon may behave suspiciously to confuse the other players.

Give players about 30 seconds to discuss.

In our version of the game, no player is eliminated, unlike in the original Mafia game.
Everyone simply continues playing the next round so that all players stay involved and have fun.
